Matt joined the team in August 2020 as our organist and Director of Music.
He studied organ with Robin Walker at St. Michael’s Parish Church in Aldershot and was a chorister.
After Sixth Form College, he attended King Alfred’s University College in Winchester, studying with Christopher Monks at Winchester Cathedral. He served as Organ Scholar at Peterborough Cathedral, working as Acting Assistant and Acting Master of the Music.
In 1998, he became the youngest Cathedral director of music in Britain at The Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Dundee at the age of 21. After a period of freelance work in St. Andrews and Dundee, he became Director of Music at Alloa West Church in 2002 for over six years.
He has performed across the UK, appeared on broadcasts and recordings, and completed a Master of Letters at Stirling University in 2020. He holds diplomas from The Royal College of Organists, Trinity College of Music, and London College of Music.
Recently, he was Musical Director for the Alloa Musical Players and performed in recitals across the UK, including Blackburn, Brecon, Chester, Dunblane, Hereford, Newcastle, Oban, and Perth. He is a regular at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow.
In 2007, he formed ‘The Trumpet Shall Sound’ with Grant Golding, recording two CDS and performing UK recitals.
He was also Director of Music at Thomas Coats Memorial Church in Paisley, home to the iconic 1894 Hill pipe organ, where he was appointed Organist and Director of Music.
